GERARDSOULES by bucklesw1
GERARDSOULES, a photo by bucklesw1 on Flickr.

NY DAILY NEWS PHOTO: Gerard Soules, the celebrated single trapeze star, (probably in his mid 20s), in NYC, 1962, where he performed his famous heel catch act on RBBB that year. Eight years
later, Elvin Bale would return to a new Madison Sq. Garden where he too would perform the act, taught him by Gerard. Both Soules and Bale honed their trapeze acts on Clyde Beatty. After quitting the
trapeze, reportedly brought on by a case of the nerves, Soules worked for years on the big ice shows and circuses with a dress up dog act reminiscent of Victor Julian's act. He died in 1991.

Good morning Whitey

Trying to place the actual block

of Broadway in this photo

I'm guessing it's at about 49th

looking South as several landmarks

are shown on both sides

Don't recall the "Tango Palace"

& can't remember exactly where

the "Warner" was situated and

wasn't it refitted for "Cinerama"

To all Times Squareophiles: Chic and I bounced this back and forth and decided it was made on Seventh Avenue at about 49th or 50th.

You can see the front of Loew's State across the street and down by that "Warner" sign is the back side of the old Rivoli Theater now alas gone like so many others.

Way in the upper right you can see the top of Chic's beloved Paramount Building where Chic got Frank Sinatra's autograph many years ago.

No I got that wrong: it was Frank who asked for Chic's autograph.

I remember working with Gerard on the Beatty Show in the '80s. A class-act and gentleman ALL THE WAY!
