From Roger Smith

Another Tribute to Irwin Kirby, Editor, Amusement Business Jerry Digney and Frank Curry agreed that AB Editor Irwin Kirby was a great guy. Indeed. I notified him I was on my way to Washington,DC, to contribute my solicited suggestions for the Animal Welfare Actof 1970, and that I'd have a stop at Nashville's airport. As we sat on the tarmac, an airline official came aboard and asked for me. As I stood, he announced that Irwin Kirby from the magazine was waiting to interviewme. Every head on the plane turned as I exited. Kirby was in the VIP Lounge and taped our visit until the last minute. Here is his "must-read"column from that interview, which ran on June 12, 1971. Perhaps blowingit up will make it legible. For this conference, I sat with Doc Henderson, Dave Hoover, Murray Hill, Hal Haviland, John and Herta Cuneo, FrankBall, and L.N. Fleckles, along with circus and government lawyers. We allmade our points about what should be included in the law. God help us, little did we know what was to come.

Good one, Roger.

I got to know Irwin when he was with AB, but he also did some booking for Beatty-Cole at one time. Very nice guy.
