Considering these three particular elephants, which Beatty acquired in lieu of back wages from Adkins and Terrell, and the presence of palm trees, I'm inclined to locate this shot in Ft. Lauderdale, at Beatty's Jungle Zoo. I can't account for what looks like a mountain in the background.

BUCKLES: Does the presence of chain around the front feet indicate these bulls were known as runners? And--Jean Evans was the usual elephant empress for Arky at the Jungle Zoo--but can you ID this lady for sure?

I wondered about that myself.
I couldn't imagine anything at the park that these three hadn't seen before.
Also unsure about the lady.

Can you clarify for me something? Was this the first Anna May,or the one I got to meet at Circus World in Florida? I know she was a mature lady when I met her in 77, and waits for us in Heaven, but if this was her, she was quite the senior citizen.

This elephant was imported into the Wm. P. Hall Farm in 1925 where my father was working.
He suggested she be named after a movie star with whom he was enraptured, Anna May Wong and they did.
Twenty five years later he trained three small elephants that had already been named "April", "May" and "June" for the Kelly-Miller Show. The smartest one "May" soon became "Anna May" in salute to the first one.

I don't see what "mountain" you are referring to. This was definitely shot at Beatty's Jungle Zoo in Ft Lauderdale.

There was a high fence over behind these people in the deck chairs, maybe that's what you're looking at.

Just last month my son drove me down to see my old and sick aunt in the Keys and we stopped off long enough to visit Gateway Shopping Center, site of the Jungle Zoo.

Of course there is zip there now to remind one of Beatty days.
