From Buckles #5

Scan13120, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Capt. Larry Davis at left and a lady from the Naitto Troupe posing
with a group of Abyssinian Asses.
They had a couple of those with the Cole Show that worked in harness.
I was told at the time that the Cross on their backs was emblematic
from having bourne "Mary" to Bethlehem.

One morning at the Breakfast Club in Baraboo, Bobby Gibbs explained the Nativity Scene to us.
He said the original name was "Herkimer" but when asked by one of the Wise Men what the child"s name would be
Joseph arose, struck a low rafter and holding his head said "Jesus Christ!" and it stuck.

Since we've gone off on Bible stories, the first recorded incident of spouse abuse is in Luke, where they documented Mary riding Joseph's ass all the way to Bethelem.

Just thought I'd throw that in for the day!

The Naitto woman is Nena. Larry Davis, husband of Cora Davis, single trap aerial star of the early 40's with Ringling, was head usher in 1944 and working in the big top when the Hartford fire started. Nena was married to a man named Schurer (phonetical spelled) he handled the paper work for getting most of the foreign acts into the country for the show. Jackie LeClaire

Jackie; Your memory is getting a little shady. Larry Davis was the boss elephant man on Ringling in the late 30s and was married to Cora for many years, even after Ringling. Your absent minded senior friend Johnny.
