I don't take any offense by Chic's comment. I appreciate Mireille and Jack jumping in there, but no, I am hardly Charly. I am just trying to do the most I can with what I have here in this modern era. I had to stop doing this trick recently because I did a poor job training it. I never made the cat sit like Charly did with Kismit. By allowing the cat to stand, I illicit a "king of the jungle" type response from the cat, and received a few "dings" because of it. I plan to try this again with another cat, and have one I can use for years, but I failed with this one horribly. No offense Chic. I always look at words of wisdom I heard as a youth though "You can't have any heroes in this business" rings in my head. All our heroes had huge faults, that's just the way it is. Don't be to jumpy for your heroes, cause some one may someday expose them for what they are and what they REALLY did. Again, thanks for the kind comments, I can only thank god I am not wearing a Gunther Bra like Wade, or some 80's rock band pants like my colleague Mr. Walker....haha
Jack, Give Chic a break. JImmy Cole is the one who stepped way out of line. "trying his hardest!!!!!" Give Casey a bit more credit, then a participation award at the grade school Science Fair. Wade Burck
I will admit, I have not seen Adam Burke's act yet so I can't really include him in my opinion here, but Casey has the best tiger act in this country, bar none.
Hey guys...I made the Charly Bauman comparison because of the trick itself. In talking to Casey about the trick for an upcoming photo, I simply called it "The Charly Bauman trick". Notice also that my comment had a question mark (?) at the end.
By the way, my compliments to Paul Gutheil for an excellent set of photos.
The first time I saw Charley Baumann was around 1967. A class act. To Jimmy Cole and (?); a fine complement for Casey just to be mentioned on the same page as Baumann.I do not agree on Casey having the best tiger act in the country though I will say the fastest advancing(trick wise). However Casey gets my vote for most likely to becoming one the best acts I have seen, he does work hard at his craft, and gets my full respect and admiration for that. Casey, there is nothing wrong with heroes, they can be a great form of inspiration. I hope to see the cat act that Jason Walker is working. He has such good stage presentation, there is a lot to be learned from that. That alone can play a big part in any cat act, As G.W.Williams ,C.Baumann R.Baudi C.Beatty to just mention a few who have shown.
Lets not forget that Casey,to his credit, purchases each of his cats, himself. A French female show owner bought the cats that Charly brought to America. After that, RBBB bought his cats.
I am at a bit of a loss here... Mr. Cainan is being compared to Mr. Baumann because of this one trick? Lest we all forget his fellow cat trainer Mr. Walker, presenting a light-up bottle walk to the tune of the Pink Panther? Where are the comparisons of Mr. W to Mr. B? Or do the comparisons match Mr. B to Wild Animal Trainer of the New Millenia Mr. R, seeing as he trained the act?
"Trying his hardest" is a compliment. "Partcipation award in a science fair?" What I said was a well-meant compliment to Casey. Sorry I offended your sensibility.
For whatever reason, your desire is obviously to put me down and make me look foolish. Go for it. I will live another day.
For my two cents, (anyone notice that the cent sign doesn't appear on the modern keyboards?) Anyways, I just saw Ringling Blue a couple of weeks ago here in Phoenix and I really enjoyed Daniel Raffo's cat presentation. Well paced with a good number of tricks.
Unfortunately we don't get to see as many shows here in the desert as most of you in the midWest and back East seem to enjoy. It's usually Ringling and the Shiners and IF I'm lucky a Mexican show will come through. ~frank
My 'other' two cents... I accept the comparison based on the trick and from seeing Charly do something similar in several publicity shots.
I admire this young man for having the initiative, drive and desire to put an act together against today's odds. Keep up the GREAT effort, Casey! ~frank
Having been involved in alot of training and routining over a number of years and aware of other trainers and their specialties, it seems that various trainers find certain tricks and or routines [I gues to be pol. correct I should say, Behaviors] to be not too difficult to accomplish, whereas another trainer woul find it to be the opposite. A case in point would be the so-called Baumann trick that Casey seems to not have what Big John Walker would say, "The gaff on the joint". I note that Casey does have skill in training the hind leg routines that other trainers would find difficult. Also we find that a difficult routine-trick that is hard to train, that the next time it becomes easier. I know that this is certainly the case with horses, exotic, elephants, etc. Over the years I have had good candidates for the elephant "one foot stand", but never got it accomplished. I have had great success with the multiple "lay down sit up feet to back" whereby I have seen other acts that couldn't quite get them all together and etc.,etc. Just an observation from and old pro.
For Jimmy Hall on your nice comment on my Grandson Jason. In the words of the great Joe E. Brown in that wonderful New Years Eve scene with Kathryn Grayson, "Smile Nolie Smile". It gets handed down. It goes without saying that I am extremely pleased with the efforts of Jason and certainly Lancelot. Its wonderful. Both the cats and the exotics. Top drawer, world class.
I have always had a slightly different take on that. Everyone knows who Clyde Beatty, Charly Baumann and Gunther Gebel-Williams were but how many remember the names of their cats or even what they did. It's the interplay between man and beast. Some do it better than others. Many in the public remember "Bertha", "Opal" and "King Tusk" but the vast majority have no idea who worked them. My greatest compliment came when I would overhear someone describe my elephant acts, the tricks, the pretty lady but when asked about the trainer didn't remember him at all.

Charley Bauman 2010?
Not hardly Jimmy you know better
(by the way it's Charly Baumann)
Did this guy live through the act?
Shonti is the cats name, and this is the last year he will be doing this with her.
Chic Cherie...Be NICE...
Mireille...
Chic,
You know I have great respect for you. BUT. Like Mirelle I say to you: be nice and not so judgmental. It's not becoming.
This guy Casey is the real thing and trying his hardest with his act.
The old days does were then. This is now. Sad to read your comment "not hardly." Have you ever seen Casey's act?
Best regards.
Jack
Jack et al I have spoken directly
with Casey but have never seen the
act work and I did not mean to be
demeaning to him but only to poke
fun at Jimmy about his comment
I am glad to hear all the good
reports and only wish Casey the
best of success with his tigers
I hope to be able to see the K-M
show down the line one day but I
do take offense to read of any
similar comparison to Charly
He was truly (in my estimation)
in a league of very few

C'mon folks this is not rocket
science it's CHARLY BAUMANN
Some anonymous asshole described a recent tiger trainer seen on the Blog as "Lady Ga Ga on a Mad Date!"
It was immediately deleted!

I don't think Ada was French
Maybe Flemish but not certain

Hey Buckles, I sure know how to stir up the comments!
This was the first time that I had met Casey, and as the "world's greatest arm-chair tiger trainer" (LOL), I give him some very high marks.
Again however, the comparison to Charly Baumann was not meant to be taken literaly. Let's wait a few more years to see what Casey can put together!
Could Mr RM be Bobby Mitchell
Wade Burke,

P>S> I am referring to the scene from the movie "SHOWBOAT". Johnny

However Sir Buckles within our
industry (and including many fans)
The names of Anna May & Tommy
are better remembered than most
Sad in a way that you elephant
trainers seem to get less press
Maybe you should blame Jack Ryan
A basic rule of the circus world"
ALWAYS blame the press agent! :)
Chic,
Not likely.
