I certainly will...he is doing great now. We got to see Casey's act a couple months ago and I was amazed at how much I loved it. Hashi loved it too...Im very proud of what Casey has accomplished... Lauren
Chic I believe we have a Casey Cainan fan amongst us; However Wade Burke, while in the mighty steel arena, is in the top five cat trainers that I have met, Casey has quite a ways to go to get in that ring. Never the less when outside of the arena, I will agree 100% with Casey's admirers.
Congradulations to Casey for having a first rate cat act on a traveling show. Proving it can be done. I know its not easy with bad rings. lousy lots, surley prop guys, etc. But it sure puts KM in a higher category. MANAGEMENT SHOULD BE VERY PLEASED WITH YOUR EFFORT.
J.C. Hall, Thank you, old friend. That's high marks coming from you. When you entered the "Mr. Congeniality Outside the Ring" contest years ago, a lot of us backed out knowing we didn't stand a chance. LOL WTF!!!!! When you have a chance, ask your lovely daughter how she spells her last name!!!! Wade Burck
To johnny Agree with you on your congrats to Casey. I will go further to say he has a good act even if he was on an indoor show however whats this about (bad lots, lousy rings, sirly prop guys?) I was sure only to hear those kind of statements from the younger generation? Oh well, I guess it's good to be young at heart.I will admit my tented experience is limited to less than 50 years ago but K.M.looks like a nice operation to what even a first of may like myself grew up around.
I will add. The "sirlyest" prop guys, charging the highest extortion in my career were on some building dates I have done. Also, I have played buildings that were worse then working open air...I feel the comfort of a tent show is under rated, one day stands or not.....lol
What show do you refer to that has a prop boss doing extortion to the acts. I remember Atterbury in Texas [before your time] and a few others. It seems that of late so many producers find a prop dept. to be an uneccaey evil and let the acts do it. I note you and wife and helper are pulling in your cages. Guess the prop guys are hanging out at the AC Cadillac.I do not note much difference in that mud show operation to that of others. I always find that each has good points and bad points. I note a "finale" Certainly a pain in the ass one one dayers. What hours does the light plant run? Do they unplug gypsy boxes at showtime on the hottest days. Guess they have a water boy that hooks and unhooks. Been there and done that with lots of operas and seems that Mills Bros. [except for lousy salaries] had lots to offer generally, except that the light plant went off between shows [all shows did that in those times]. For some reason our family always seemed happy around Hoxie and his circus. He paid me alot of scratch in mud show terms. So to each his own. Did you initially train that act "on the road". I can not imagine winter time withpout busy activity in the ring five and a half days a week. We were always alittle glad to be "on the road" I was not a "workaholic", admit that I did "work hard" and "played hard". Knowing Gunther and Wayne I am awae of the not "playing hard. I would not have missed it for the world and can vouch for most of our animal training fraternity of those times. My cup runneth over. I have never liked to practice "on the road". Only when necessary. Seems like some one sticks their nose thru the sidewall or some act stands cooling their heels waiting for you to quit. Especially now with all the animal rights idiots looking for something. Not being inhumane, but practice sessions can be very boring and alot of times the language can be pretty salty. My dear friend Josip Marcan has a very of words and phrases during practice as did Red Hartman and Lou Regan among many others. Lou liked to use the term "morphadite" at various times. And of course Roy Bush is a legend on his own. So best of everything and appreciate your quest to do it better and different. If you and KM are the right fit thats the place to be. I do not envy anyone with animals in this day.
Wade, I have never done a whole season of building dates (Is there such a thing now days?) Just dates here and there and a season that Mr. Fur attempted to play just buildings. (first name Go)
Mr. Herriot, I have always called a set, and demanded, weekly payment, an extortion, not a tip. I know all shows have one. I have learned to accept it. Not to awful high here. The groom and I set the arena and unload cages in back yard in the morning by ourselves. The prop guys (3) and my groom move arena and cages into tent in the afternoon. Generator runs 9 AM till 10:30-11:00PM everyday. If forecast is under 40 degrees it runs all night. Two plants so AC's not a problem on hot days (have been on a few shows with NO AC policy on hot days at showtime) We do have water guy to fill tanks and electrician pulls your cord for a small tip.(optional, so I don't call it extortion) I did train the act on the road but not by choice. On Mr. Fur's show playing rodeo arenas and buildings. No prop guys on that show, period. But I know you are right, they all have good parts and bad. This show just seems to have more good for me.
To Tangefoot Herriott (Wooooooow) P.S.To all; I heard some good news. McDonalds will permit you to check your happy meal and make sure the toy is indeed in the box before you get all the way home.

This situp might look better
if it were centered in the arena
Have you even seen the act? There is a "method to his madness" as to why they sit up in the front of the arena....

Say hi to Hadji
Chic,
Look a few pictures back. They sit up in the middle of the arena too after the wheel and rollover.

Thanks Lauren and thanks to Radar
but the earlier photo only shows
4 of the cats & they are neither
grouped together nor in a similar
situation the #7 photo shows a
much better grouping & I only
wish all their paws were raised
(maybe that occured after that)
I know it isn't fair to judge an
act from these few photos and I
do look forward to seeing it
Chic,
Send me your email and I will send you some better pictures that show what you are looking for.

To Jimmy,
Compared to my other 20 years (less then first-o-may) on tent shows. KM is a F*&%^ing Cadillac on a highway of VW Bugs...lol

Casey,
That 20 year career you mention, what is the total of the years in a building?

Terrific observations John
The "salty" language note brought
to mind Pat Anthony who didn't
save that stuff for practice &
could easily be heard well above
the band with the most colorful
commands & insults to the cats
I would watch the old ladies try
to cover the kids ears while they
cringed in horror (what fun)

I was wondering John if the "AC

version of our old "Blue Room"
