Buckles, I was also at the 1964 NY Worlds Fair, I was 16 years old and made the trip with my Dad, Mom, & sister. We rode to New York and back on the old Seaboard Railroad Silver Meteor. We stayed at a hotel somewhere in Manhattan, but can`t remember the name of it. I remember getting off the subway and seeing Shea Stadium behind us as we went in the gate. The circus was one of the top things on our list to do and it was quite a show, we had to walk over the Long Island Express Way on a foot bridge to get back to where the circus was. Being from a little state like South Carolina, and not having been to New York since I was 7 this was a real experience, I couldn`t believe how big it was. I remember seeing the circus and what a great show it was ! I talked to Tommy & Struppi about it several years ago when they were playing the Shrine date here in Columbia. We stayed in NY for 6 days and went to the Fair on 3 of them and I still don`t think we saw everything there. I also remember the Small World Ride, and riding a log flume ride for the first time. Some of the pavilions were outstanding, too bad with all the trouble in the world today we can`t still have things like this. Anyway, I still have my Official Souvenir Map of the Fair, pulled it out of my darkest files and scanned you some copies of the cover and where the circus was located. I wish I could scan the whole map, but it`s way too large for my scanner. You really brought back some great memories with these pictures of the Worlds Fair Continental Circus in 64. Thanks, Hal Guyon |
