From Paul Gutheil #1

Mr. Gutheil's picture couldn't have come at a more appropriate time.

Following from the Ringling "we can do nothing wrong" & "of course we fully market research" mentions the elephant picture was fully appropriate!!

Not being US-based one mention puzzled me a little - Ringlings spoke of three shows (no I'm not writing that stupid Zing thing...) but only have the Red & Blue units - or is one city only? It probably said somewhere in one of their publicity sprawls but they tend to make me read something else.

Very sorry Buckles!!

Thanks for your reply. Alas, at the moment the Gold unit seems to be far away from us in the UK and is not being talked about.

I must admit I have seen some of the refs. to the show being in Europe on your site - but, as I say their publicity makes me tend to read elsewhere & I assumed it was part of the standard red or blue!!(I'll give myself 0 out of 10 for not paying attention....).

The picture of the elephant fresh-vending fertilizer for the lady, following the post of the canned RBBB response reminded me of a cartoon by the late B. Kliban, contained in one of his books entitled -
"Never Eat Anything Bigger Than Your Head and Other Drawings", 1976 (ISBN 0-911104-67-4).
the cartoon is titled,
"The Birth of Adverstising". a single-panel cartoon showing the back-end of a large horse in process of producing several identical bald-headed men in business suits and glasses, who, soon as they've popped out, with big smiles began glad-handing each other.
It's worth a trip to the library or amazon.com to see a copy. Can't find the image of that cartoon online, though. Drat.
