Riding the elephant back to camp to get help, Sam Jaffee must first explain to a none-too-amused Victor McLaglen why he and Cary Grant took off during the night without permission. |

In the early 1960’s Jaffee played the senior doctor on the old BEN CASEY TV series.
My favorite Jaffe role was the smarmy Doc Reidenschneider in John Huston's "The Asphalt Jungle".
. . . the only master criminal ever foiled by a Wurlitzer jukebox.
Sam Jaffe won the Venice Film Festival's Best Actor award for his role in THE ASPHALT JUNGLE, in 1950.
In 1961, as BEN CASEY was catching on, Jaffe was nominated that year for Emmy's Best Supporting Actor.
And don't forget his Dr. Barnhardt in THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. Michael Rennie was the visiting space alien who solved a difficult calculus problem for the Doctor. It was said that Jaffe himself provided the calculus problem we see on the blackboard.
STOOD STILL was my favorite sci-fi film as a boy, and one day, at 20th, I was assigned to work on Stage 8. All studios have plaques on their stages proclaiming the years and production names of projects shot there. I enjoyed noticing the plaque on Stage 8 listing STOOD STILL for interiors shot there, along with one of my favorite Westerns, THE GUNFIGHTER, starring Gregory Peck.
