"Hello Dolly!"

Scan12349, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

I saw Carol Channing in a New York revival of Dolly in either 1978 or '79, quite a show.
This is a shot of Miss Channing about 10 years later at Lincoln Center, a very nice lady.

The "star quality" of both of these ladies is quite evident in this photo.

Buckles,
I was a ass't stage manager on that show in 1979 at the St. James Theatre on Broadway.
It was a real fun show to work --and get paid to do it too.
Channing is blind as a bat and had to be handled with kid gloves --but she was a real lady and took very good care of her fellow cast members.
She was not a diva to the cast nor to her patrons.
Trivia Fact: She was in that show for years plus many a revival. She NEVER missed a performance for any reason. Unheard of among Stars.
She got shafted by not getting the movie role. Miss Barbara stunk in it.
Worse Dolly ever on Broadway ? - Pearl Baily. Worked her show also. You never knew what she was going to do next. And in a scripted book show that has a cast and orchestra of 40-55 rehearsed people --this is not fun.

Friend of mine worked a date with Barbra and he said she was a horror to be around. He said never again.
