Buckles. Let's hear the story about your meeting with the Circus World choreographer who sought your advice about "circus morning train unloading".

I'm almost 75 now. I not only forget what I had for breakfast, I don't even remember if I had breakfast.

The theater was originally called

"Circus Day Theater" and the show

was titled "The Day The Circus

Comes To Town" Pretty hokey as it

was concieved by the "Ol Opry"

team before Mattel in a futile

attempt asked Irvin to send a

team to spruce it up

(I was part of that team)

I may have some of the old

paperwork around and if I find

any I'll get it to Buckles

(If I don't forget)

From left to right, Micky McDowell, Linda Lively, Ms Ellie, Jennie Sue? and Ed Leffler.

I also seem to recall a pile of

additional scenic elements that

were sloughed from the show back

behind the building

Didn't George Coronas have a

serious wheel accident early on

GaryHill said...

Yes, George did fall once and messed his eye up. I subbed for his brother Charlies a few times helping him with the wheel.

Chic Silber said...

George's brother is Serge and

their sister is Eva

I don't recall any others Gary

Charlie was always in the background wearing blue over alls. Very quiet guy, hung out with Momma and Pappa Corona. Real tall and skinny too.

For the opening and closing segments of this show, the dialogue and music was on tape, just like the Disney Ice Shows today.
It changed to live music when spec entered, led by a live marching band. It included the three wagons seen being unloaded from the train pulled by smaller elephants so it would be better proportioned.
During spec the cage was lifted from the ring curb.
Irvin, Kenny and Scooter came in for the opening and tore the show to pieces. I was crushed after all the work we had done, then it finally sunk in, what did I expect them to say?, "Boy, these Grand Old Opry people sure did a better show than we did!"
