A three-abreast Philadelphia Toboggan Company portable carousel. An intact one is at the fair in Puyallup, WA and two others, substantially modified, also survive, including this machine.

It appears as if all 3 rows of

horses on this Jenny are on

eccentrics not just 2

A single horse today is likely

to be worth more than the entire

ride cost originally

I loved the old band organs

Mudsills - Center - Upper Sweeps

and Spreaders - Lower Sweeps and

Spreaders - Platforms and Hangers

Eccentrics - Poles and Sockets

(with locating pins) - Inside

Scenery - Outside Scenery - Cable

Harness - Horses - Charriots

Top Mast & Top - Band Organ

That's most of it aside from the

motor unit or gas engine

I could do one tomorrow

So for those so inclined...

Raise each horse slightly

pull the pin rotate each horse

and replace pin

Next day all the horses are

going backwards

3 abreast 36 in about 25 minutes

A few weeks ago, I visited my old elephants and rhinos up in NJ at Great Adventure. I took my wife to Seaside Heights to show her the beach and boardwalk. One of the ladies in one of the shops was talking about a carousel for sale in the casino for 5 million dollars. They have three on the boardwalk if I remember correctly all inside building and in working condition. They are all masterpieces.

I still love the sound of a band organ! When I was growing up in Los Angeles, we had several around town. There was one at the old zoological gardens in Lincoln Park, another that's still in Griffith Park and one that's been in more movies than Tom Cruise on the boardwalk in Santa Monica. Milt Larson had one inside the museum at the Magic Castle that he salvaged and rebuilt from somewhere! ~frank
