Pete Sutton Carnival 1960

Scan11929, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Lou Turner and Albert Cauble posing with Sport Matthews elephant "Dixie" in El Monte, California.

Herb Walters bought "Dixie" in late 1963. The Kelly-Miller show was wintering in Mississippi and my father had just died, making me about the only elephant man on hand.
She had pretty well taken over their winter quarters and Herb asked for help. Squared her away in a hurry but I heard she remained pretty salty in her later years with the Silverlakes.

In the mid or late 1960s old Tiger Wells asked me if A M Cauble might still be alive. At the time I assumed he had been dead for years but after seeing this photo I'm not so sure.

Do you know when and where he died?

I believe Albert Cauble, born 24 September 1882 in Johnson County, TX, died in November 1966 in Brownsville, TX at age 84.

Many thanks, Kurt.

Tiger had been with both Monroe Bros shows- Cauble's and then Ted LaVelda's many years later.

Tiger also once operated the only wild west show I ever heard of that had no horses at all. Not even one. He and Billie and the kids did ropes, whips, knife throwing etc and managed to get by.

He called himself the Hollywood Kid at one time.

They spent their last years in Trinity, TX. Slim Cantrell used to stop in to see them and I once drove Harry Willard over to share a few.

The last time I can recall seeing Pappy Cauble would have been around 62 or 63 in the valley of Tx. He, along with Dorey Miller and Ben Davenport were visiting Little Bob Steven's Greater Sells Bros Circus.
Albert hauled my family over to see the AL-G-Kelly Miller Circus. That was the year that the show bought all brand new Chevy trucks. It was a damn big show back then. On a Sunday afternoon the highlight of the day was capped off by watching Swain and Snooks Plunkett hitching up their house trailer.
I believe the dates that Mr.Spence stated are about right on Cauble's death. His son as I recall looked just like his dad. He was a pilot in the air force at the time and just as tall; 6 foot plus I would say. He would have to be around 70 now.
