Gunther’s elephant number that year had a gypsy theme. (A recent hit film had been titled KING OF THE GYPSIES and, when Gunther made his entrance, he was introduced as “the King of the Gypsies.”) One of the props used to add atmosphere during this number was this nice little gypsy wagon that lit up from the inside. (I wonder where it is today?) |

Chic's probably got it!
Did't Lenny Wolen, clown and later of Hill Street Blues ride on the back of this wagon in fortune teller drag?
Bruce the Clown
I believe this was the first show built by Hagenbeck wallace in the back of winter quarters. My brother Mark was the first employee of that company. This float was his pride and joy. At that time they had a bandsaw table saw and welder. With a few hand tools and they built the entire show! I believe he says it was one of his first projects. He went on tto manage that company for over ten years. Those were the days! Mitch Freddes
Is Mark Freddes still with Hagenbeck Wallace?
I thought it went to CW along
with my "happiness train" and
"clown cage"
I came across this site when I thought about my friend Lenny Wolen who used to work for the Circus. Also, after he left the circus he went on to perform in a burlesque show with Carole Channing and Robert Moore, and then went on to play as a desk Clerk on the tv show Hill Street Blues.
I would love to know if my friend is still around or if he has passed.
If you know any info, please email me at pastordave777@gmail.com
Thanks for your time, Blessings
