1979 Ringling-back yard photo op (From Eric Beheim)

My all-time favorite Red Unit edition (musically and performance-wise) was the 109th Edition. Unfortunately, I only have these few photos from when it was in San Diego in July 1979. (My wife took most of them since I was busy playing in the band.)



This particular photo was taken between shows in the backyard. Some youth group was going to be recognized that night at the performance, and they brought along their mascot for a photo op with an elephant. (I remember that one year, during the pre-show introductions, some group brought in a mascot dressed in a hamster costume, which they introduced to the audience as “Gunther GERBIL Williams.” I wonder what Gunther had to say about that!)

The Elephant handler is Werner Edling. I reconise the way he is standing there
