"I remember a scene similar to this when I worked for Hugo Schmitt in 1957. I was surprised to see that only a couple of hundred people were invited to the dress rehearsal and all in formal attire. We had a scufle with some of the young elephants in spec and Hugo appeared out of nowhere restoring order in a hurry. He smacked a couple of them around a bit in the process and received a standing ovation from the guests. The previous year they had experienced a number of runaways including one also in the Garden when several managed to make it out onto 49th Street. There were pictures of the incident included in Life Magazine so Hugo's return was well received." Buckles |

When I first arrived in Venice Pat Valdo was there as well and since my Father and him where Friends from way back, I got along with him very well without even speaking a word of English.
I knew Pat then, too, Henry. He was quite along in years.
He and Antoinette Concello often ate lunch together in the winter quarters cafe. I was sitting with them one day and Pat was barely touching his food.
"You must eat more, Pat," Antoinette scolded. "It will put lead in your pencil."
Pat sighed and replied, "It's OK, Tony. I don't do much writing anymore."
'OK Johnny, you grab Irvin, Big Boy you grab the Judge and I'll get the other brother, Israel. We'll make 'em an offer they can't refuse and we'll get Jack Ryan to set up the signing of the contracts in the middle of the Coliseum in Rome!' ~frank
HAVE A GREAT MONDAY, ALL!
Frank,
Wish I could take credit. But can't.
The photo set up in the Colosseum in Rome when the Felds bought the circus was ALL the work of the late Lee Solters, mentor to so many of us.
Jack
Thanks for the correction, Mr. Solters certainly deserves the credit for such a great idea, but let's not allow truth to stand in the way of a great line. >grin<
