From Harry Kingston

Hi Buckles,
This is Harry Kingston in Texas and just got news of this from a newspaper article in the Hugo Daily News.
So please give them credit for this story.
Fallen Giant
Barbara the elephant dies
Thursday, June 4 marked the passing of Barbara the elephant. Barbara was 69 years old, and came to Hugo with the Miller family during World War II. She was a star of the circus world and traveled all across America entertaining young and old alike during her more than amazing lifetime.
A few years ago, Barbara retired from performing and traveling and was a resident of the Endangered Ark where she lived out her remaining days in the company of her younger counter parts at the breeding compound. She is buried next to Kay at the facility.
The Byrd (Miller) family is deeply saddened by her passing. They said they will continue in their efforts of breeding these beautiful and intelligent animals here in southeast Oklahoma at the Endangered Ark facility, which was begun by D. R. Miller.
( I thought the circus bloggers would like to know this as we all have many memories of Barbara the elephant on Al G. Kelly and Miller Bros. and Carson and Barnes Wild Animal Circus.

Does anyone have any info on Suzy?
Kay, Barbara and Suzy were the matriarchs for so many years on C&B.

Suzy is at Coney Island part of a three act being worked by Ramone Esqueda. Mr. Esqueda also has Bunny and Minnie

Boy, would D. R. be proud (thank you Barbara Byrd) to have 3 of his elephants appearing on Ringling Bros. Circus.
