From Buckles #3

Scan11644, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

On the subject of Wallace Bros. Circus, I came across this teensy photo some time ago and on enlargement discovered that it was the "Cocoa Cola Elephants" during the period in discussion.
Can't identify the elephant man but Mac MacDonald worked them for a while and even went so far as to marry and divorce Norma Rogers during the time spent with the show.
Only four of these would have actually come from the Cocoa Cola Facility in Atlanta, "Marion", "Addie (Hattie), "Cora" and "Inez".
They started their circus career with Downie Bros. in 1934 and toured with Wallace Bros. 1940-44, Clyde Beatty Circus 1945-56 and the last three remained to tour with the Acme Corp. presentation of the Beatty-Cole Circus.
Richard Reynolds has fully recorded the history of this well known elephant act.

I have never heard of the Coca Cola Elephants. What is the history? Was it a marketing promotion? Can somebody fill me in?
