- By the way, their show had more acts in a small one ring tent than that Maine Shrine show we talked about the other night!
- Sea Lions (John Jr.)
- Double Trapeze (Ross & Wife)
- Exotic Birds (Deana)
- Clown Routine (Franko)
- Sword/Dagger Balancing (Ray)
- Baby Tika presented by Scott Riddle
- INTERMISSION
- Trampoline (Ross & John Jr.)
- Spanish Web (Deana)
- Incline Wire with High Dive (John Jr.)
- Dog Act with High Dive finish (Helene)
- Magic Act (John Jr.)
- Clown Routine (Franko)
- Motorcycle on Incline Wire (Ross & Wife)
Not a bad show for $3.00!!

That's a real nice compliment Frank. But you have your wires crossed. The photo was taken on my grandfathers show(Wallace Brothers). The line up that you listed was actually from Wallace and Rogers Circus about 1974 or so give or take a year. Wallace and Rogers was a family show of the Hartzell Family. John and Helene Hartzell, John Hartzell Jr.and wife Dena(Lacy), Ray Hartzell, Mike Hartzel, and Ross Hartzell with wife.
And your right! It was great show for 3 bucks. Thanks for remembering us.
Ross Hartzell
To all that were confused by my entry - There was one that preceeded this one which talked about how John and Helene and their sons started the Wallace & Rogers Circus from their savings from being one of the first acts hired for the new Circus Circus casino in Las Vegas. In the early 70's they started the Wallace & Rogers Circus with everyone but Mike, (who stayed behind and eventually became the VP of Talent for Circus Circus). I was fortunate enough to travel with this great family in 1976 when we toured the Western United States, Alberta & British Columbia, the Yukon Territory and played almost three months in Alaska. The show was sold after John, Sr. passed away unexpectedly the next year. John survived the great MGM Hotel fire in Las Vegas, only to succumb to cancer a few years later. Ray went back to Circus Circus as one of the lead techs. Helene wrote children's books and passed away in Las Vegas.
Ross is still out their and occasionally appears on this blog.
Scott has the Elephant Sanctuary in Arkansas. Baby Tika is with the Gatti show. I'm here in Phoenix. :-) ~frank
A few days ago we were talking about how skimpy the Maine Shrine program looked. By comparrison with that three-ring spectacular, this little one-ring, European-style show was an extraviganza!
Hi Frank, you are for the most part pretty accurate about the Wallace and Rogers show. I was of course there also. Please stimulate my memories as to who you are. For some reason I can't place you. How were you involved with the show? Are you perhaps "Franco"? Any way it would be great to share old times. I live just down the road from you in Tucson.
Ross Hartzell
Yes, Ross -
I'm Franco and my e-mail is fpferrante@cox.net, contact me and we'll get together soon!
Ross' wife's name was Victoria Hartzell. Maiden name Wilson. (ex wife now)
