The band leader is John Roseboom, wh0 is the Sarasota High School band director. He is also a member of Windjammers. The band plays a few really nice traditional circus pieces, including some gallops.
Although the show itself is all students, the band has a few experienced grey hairs mixed in for flavor!

P.S. The Sailor Circus hires out for fund raisers and corporate shows. I used them for the Brandon Center for the Arts annual fund raiser and they did a GREAT job!
Looks to be about 35 musicians
Is there any other show that
currently uses a band of this
size anywhere in the world
Live music (even by half dead)
(or half in the bag) is still
a most important component
of any production on a stage
or in a tent or arena building
I'm ever grateful that I had
the opportunities to see so
many of these over the years

Sure beats a trumpet, keyboards and a snare & cymbal!
The last time I saw Sailor Circus the big band played a concert during the come in and Schlarbaum played the performance with about 20 musicians.
it seems like only yesterday that canned music was only used in an emergency. a good band can do a lot to help any performance, and i have seen a couple where chuck schlarbaum's music provided such a great distraction you forgot how weak the show was. any show with live music gets extra points now -- and if chuck's playing, the music alone makes it a very special show.
My dad used to say, "I can sit thru anything if the music's good!"
The Peru Youth Circus band consisted of about 65 musicians when I attended the festival about five years ago. Don't know whether its size has dwindled since.
