Keepsakes!

Scan11337, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

In the 1970's Irvin Feld awarded his staff members, associates and others (Building Managers, etc.) with a collectible Christmas gift.
Above is the desk clock I received one year. The lid pivots.
My favorite is the framed mirror with the RBBB logo and leaping tiger.
Charly and Araceli took Barbara and I to a Sea Food Restaurant when we showed Portland, Maine. The only time I can recall ever having lobster, Charly was quite the connoisseur.
During the course of the evening the subject of the Christmas gifts arose and Araceli laughed and said, "You should have seen the expression on Charly's face when after opening his, it turned out to be a picture of Gunther Gebel Williams."
I don't know how long that policy continued, I didn't get one in 1979, maybe I had been crossed off the list by then.

There were several seafood shacks

down on the waterfront some of

which would stay open late on

show nights and some of us had

contests in the all you can eat

lobster joints

Elvin & I would often tie

walking back up the hill when

overstuffed & tired was no fun

Buckles,

Not sure when the gifts stopped but, for quite a while, I was lucky enough to get them too.

The 100th Anniversary holiday gift was a watch made from a silver commemorative coin. I still have it although it never worked too well.

Do you remember the wall clock with photo of Lou Jacobs and Knucklehead? That's on my office wall. Replaced the bettery-operated time keeper a few years ago and it still works well.

The bar mirror with the leaping Strobridge tiger still looks great above my fireplace too.

One year, they sent a huge box of towels -- from beach towel to wash cloth sizes, emblazoned with circus logo, art and a nod to Siegfried & Roy. Then there was the golf umbrella. Etc. etc.

Irvin prided himself on the choice of gifts. Glad to have mine. Fun to see and they bring back all sorts of memories.

Best,

Jack

Buckles,
I think they were PO'd at you, because we got a beautiful, engraved with the various Feld shows, set of cocktail glasses in 1984, and a set of coffee mugs with poster reproductions in 1985. I don't recall much after Irvin's death, except Christmas cards with the cover of the new show's program.
Charly told me about receiving the GGW picture. He wasn't happy about it. He didn't cheer up much when I said, " if you still have it and don't want it, I'll take it."

We still have some of those polar bear towels around.
Not only did we get the Christmas gift set but the Circus World press people had enough to make a blanket for Anna May which was used for a particular publicity gig.
I don't remember what it was about, Gary or Ted must have done it.
