Why did they use two cars for this shot? One for black and white and maybe a different paint color for color prints??? Was also wondering with the car photo the other day of Hoot and Beatty, that it may have been a new car tie in. With the car company giving them use, and local dealers in Fl.doing the paint work. New car reps would love to have this kind of press.

People have forgotten that Studebaker was in South Bend, IN, not too far from Rochester. They did some major promotions with Cole Bros., lots of photographs were taken at the quarters, by Harry Atwell in some cases.

You'll also recall Chevrolet and Pontiac had auto chassis carried on Hagenbeck-Wallace in the 1930s, shown in the center of the menagerie [as seen in a Kelty shot]. They were hauled in a baggage wagon that's preserved at Baraboo, "converted" to wardrobe duty. Sam B. Dill also had a tie-in with GM trucks.

There are many other auto-circus connections.

Mr. & Mrs. Beatty were given a Studebaker for working these shots. He had one car, the make and model of which I don't recall, which had spare tire cases up front on either side. In very bold strokes he had them lettered CLYDE BEATTY.
