Why does the car read "FLORIDA?" A "tribute" to FL? As a Cole "second unit" I imagine the equipment was wintered in IN wasn't it?

Jim,
Note Beatty got first billing over Gibson.

Hoot Gibson had been a super-star in the 1920s and was still quite popular in the early 1930s. By 1938, if you weren't a SINGING cowboy, appearing with a circus was probably a good career move.

Come June, when we remember Mr. Beatty's birthday, there will be posted an announcement that will provide new thoughts to some historians.

at that time, clyde beatty was a much bigger star than most movie stars. even as late as the "ring Of Fear" filming, all the movie magazines acknowledged his fame and popularity by writing about beatty's new movie. i remember reading about it more than a year before it was released -- waiting for that movie was like waiting for christmas and santa claus, just as waiting for "the Greatest Show On Earth" was.

The fancy "Welcome Clyde Beatty, Hoot Gibson and the Famous Robbins Circus to Florida" is a nice tribute to the arrival of the 1938 Robbins Bros. Circus in the Sunshine State on October 3, at Jacksonville, FL, and thereafter through October 14. One wonders who did the nice paint job and the party that paid for it. Naturally, Barnes-Floto with RBBB FEATURES posted 12-sheet WAIT paper against this rival.
