From time to time, mention has been made of Percy Turner, who took out Turner Bros. Dog and Pony Show in the late 1950s. Percy was, by trade, a sign painter (and a very good one, too.) When I first met him in the early 1970s, he still had some equipment left over from his show, which he kept on a vacant lot adjoining the modest house he rented in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego. The paintwork on this particular wagon was always kept in good condition and provided a fine example of Percy’s wagon-lettering ability. |

Not long ago, we had a 10-foot banner made up for the local garden club. Where Percy would lettered it all by hand, this one was done using plastic stick-on letters.
