Turner Bros. Circus #1 (From Eric Beheim)

Turner-1, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

From time to time, mention has been made of Percy Turner, who took out Turner Bros. Dog and Pony Show in the late 1950s. Percy was, by trade, a sign painter (and a very good one, too.) When I first met him in the early 1970s, he still had some equipment left over from his show, which he kept on a vacant lot adjoining the modest house he rented in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego. The paintwork on this particular wagon was always kept in good condition and provided a fine example of Percy’s wagon-lettering ability.

Not long ago, we had a 10-foot banner made up for the local garden club. Where Percy would lettered it all by hand, this one was done using plastic stick-on letters.
