The Renowned Florenz Troupe!

Scan11164, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

This picture is undated but doesn't look like our days with Kelly-Miller in the early 1950's. Maybe Biller Bros. or even King Bros.
In any event, # 3,4 and 5 from left are Flo, Belmonte and Gracie.

The Florenz troupe in its day was one of the great teeterboard acts and long on the old Barnum & Bailey in the first decade or two of the 20th century. It was the subject of a Pete Smith newsreel in the 1930s titled (if I recall correctly without checking) "Knip Ups." What they did pales in comparison to what we saw on Ringling in the 1970s with their incredible display of 3 rings of eastern European teeterboard acts but in their day the Florenz troupe was a great, classy act that often worked in tuxedos. It would be nice to know more about who composed the act in its last years as we see here.

This was a tight wire act put together as a house act on Barnett Bros. Circus in the 1930's and included over the years such people as Norma and Helele Rogers, Ursaline MacIntosh and Eddie Hendricks to mention a few.
I think some of the people in this picture are from the Coriell family.

Dick: Did the Florenz family you mention include the Florenz who did the somersaulting car act on the Cole show.

Also was Al Florenz the clown of that family?
