Has that awful looking contraption ( the bridge you call it?) been scrapped or still in use? It saved furniture moving but I thought it not nice looking. Dion
I asked Bill Strong that same question because it looks as though it would be something to stumble over or at least tangle the whip into. He said that it was actually no trouble at all and he spoke in favor of it.
Anonymous, The wisdom is sometimes profound. Dion, My self personally I would have nothing else then this type of pyramid. The tall one's that have to be moved or worked around, thus limiting what behaviors you could do would not have been my choice. One you became comfortable familiar with this(which is what caused many problems) it became second nature. Whips weren't a problem, if thrown properly, or a balanced twisted willow. Other anonymous, "the tigers behind the contraption" are coming from their seats to the front to lay down and then sit up, four on each side. "Lay down up there"? Up where, on the pyramid. Yes that is normal for an effective stretch with a large group. When the came up and stretched and stayed, until the other tigers sat up, it didn't get much of a hand. If they laid, and then stretched in unison with the 8 tigers sitting up in front, as you straddled the tiger in the middle it was very effective. When the act was made to 15 animals there were 3 on either side sitting up, and two in the middle that you stood between. It is unusual to see those differing behaviors together on one pyramid, and normally it is just a few animals stretching and one sitting up on the top seat of the bridge, which is the most basic pyramid done since the 1930's and earlier. (It is unusual to see those differing behaviors together on one pyramid) Sounds like two common "behaviors" sit-up or strtch. Is kind of unusual to get on ones knees before finishing a trick. I have only seen that for taking a ta-da. One of a kind to put trick together on one knee.
Anonymous, I guess that would depend on how may "big" tricks you have put together/worked on whether you go on one knee or not. Bending over is much like bowing, and I was told never to bow, as it was an apology, by a number of respected folks when I was starting out. That and the fact that you had to bring them under the pyramid with cables and bars in the way, the lower posture of one knee made for a more visual target and less confusion/stress for the animals. The ta da came when you stood straddling the animal in the middle, surrounded by tigers, looking at the audience instead of with your back to them, and they all sat up and stretched in unison with the raising of the arms. A hell of a ta da matter of fact. Wade Burck
Casey, Why don't you and Zych spend some quality time explaining to Dion, that a bridge is the thing that goes between two pedestals to make a pyramid, it is not the actual contraption. LOL Wade Burck
Chic, Wait a minute!!! You mean to tell me TaDa was not the little Michu type guy on Fantasy Island, who got all worked up when the plane was landing, and he could hardly wait to tell Ricardo Montalban? Boy, do I feel silly. LOL Wade Burck
Wade,..That was "Tattoo" not TaDa...Though popular with the public, Herve' Villechaize proved a difficult actor on Fantasy Island where he continually propositioned women and quarrelled with the producers. He was eventually fired after demanding that his pay be on par with that of co-star Ricardo Montalbán. Although he wasnt in the "Circus"..it sure looks like he followed the path of many a "Kinker".....

What are the tigers behind the contraption doing? Is it normal for the tigers to lay down up there?

Zych,
I was gonna ask if they made a "costume", "hair don't", and "pose" like that for men as well,,,,LOL

Traditional act bridge = thingy between pedestals, high point for pyramid.
Act circa 1980 bridge = apex of Rube Goldberg device where cats sit or lay down.
It has been noted that this is a streamlined gladiator armor that was worn by the Roman Gladiators.
Wade wore this during his "Spartacus" period.
Old and new cultures consider Spartacus a folk hero because he was symbolic of the fight against slavery by the oppressed people.
We all know that Wade is good folk from North Dakota and some of us consider him a hero, not many, but some.
wade - I meant NOTHING by that line, so don't email me or call...
Mike,
I had no intention of emailing. Spartacus was against slavery and fought against oppression, and there is something noble about that.

Anonymous,
Which one are you talking about, Hawthorns, Marcan's or the one in China? Or are you lumping them together? Just curious.

Zych,
It's too bad there wasn't an Alf character waiting for him to fill.
