Reminds me of the tired old joke about a smart aleck in a Chinese Restaurant. "Do you have any Chickee Fly Lice?" "No we don't have any chicken fried rice, Plick!"
I was 6'6 back in 1985 (I'm pretty sure I've started to shrink over the past couple of years) but I always looked up to Richard...literally and figuratively. I worked with him a lot since he was my costume designer at Clown College. Looking back I'm amazed that he was able to take that monstrous pile of yellow, pink and purple fabric I picked out and turn it into a beautiful costume that I wore proudly for years. I used to chat with him online quite often but lost track of him recently. I've heard his health isn't the best but I'd like to touch base with him again. Has anyone here been in touch with him lately?
I remeber Richard from my Circus World days and later seeing him with Michu on the Red(?)unit and being struck with not his comedy but his elegance and striking appearance. When Richard was on stage, your eyes were drawn to him for the Don Foote Wardrobe, his height (accented always by a tall hat of some kind) and the elegance of his movement. He could upstage just about anybody. I don't remeber ever being struck by his comedy but will always remember him as a personality on the show that could bring something special to the moment. I remember Righard as being a very quiet and gentle person, a dedicated performer, and always a gentleman. I often wondered what happened to him.
So Barry, you are talking about Richard Fick... and Warren I believe you are referring to Richard Mann?
As for Mr. Fick I just finished speaking to him on the phone not more than 20 minutes ago. He sounded great and in good form (lots of quips). We did not discuss his health, but he did sound good. He has promised to 're-surface' soon. Barry, I will send him your regards.
Warren, I was lucky enough to work with Richard Mann for 3 years. Yes, regal and stately sum him up to a 'T'. He could certainly draw focus on the track as he seemed to glide rather than walk. He did have a wicked sense of humor in clown alley, very dry and clever. I ran into him in Chicago in the late 70's and convinced him to appear with me in a German Cabaret show at the Second City. He was demonic as the evil magician and one of the reviews read. "you could almost smell the embalmbing fluid." What a great talent.
My only direct contact with Mischu was when I was visiting the Blue Unit. I was standing in front of the entrance to clown alley and I guess I was blocking Mischu's way in. I didn't see him so he calmly stolled between my legs, and as he passed through he punched his little clenched fist into my groin...

Buckles,
What's going on? Are you sure it is not Fick? LOL
Wade Burck
Richard Fick & Dale Longmire
were often confused by the
unknowing (or uncaring) due
to the fact that they were
both the tallest & the best
strutters in Don Foote's
elaborite fashions each on
his own unit
His name is spelled "Fick"

They created a 2 level living
quarters in his stateroom that
he would run to whenever he got
into the kind of drunken trouble
where people would chase him so
he could go hide & sleep it off
He was an ornry bastard
