Someone ought to showcase the Evansville date in a documentary that sets forth why it thrives as an annual ritual and tradition when so many other engagements seems to be headed to oblivion. Would their "model" work elsewhere, and if so, why isn't it being applied?
Quoting Paul Kaye, He said other temples call him looking for bargains and he tells them "I don't do bargains". This year was the 75th anniversary of the Hadi Shrine circus and we were told that a DVD is being made to commemorate the journey from the very first circus up to present date.
PROMOTION! I remember when every carton of milk on the shelf had a Hadi ad on it, when department store & other monthly bills went out, the macchine postage stamp included a plug for the show, every sign in town, motel, furniture store, permenant, or portable, advertised the show. And the biggest thing is they never tried to fix something that wasn't broken.
Shriners wont listen because they are busy giving out passes to park in the VIP parking that is located AT THE BACKDOOR and has enough spaces for 50 cars. This means that the animals and performers are parked at the back end of the parking lot with no water pressure and a 15 amp service on the ancient utility pole. Next season we should have a photos of the horrible conditions for circus parking.
You know what is causing the erosion of the Shrine Circus? The Shriners, themselves.
Altoona, PA is another date that has the same enthusiastic feel about the circus coming to town that Evansville has. It is advertised like crazy. Shiners are very involved and the towns people wait for it to return anxiosley every year.
What is wrong with the shrine circus is "the greedy circus producers"that started doing dates for cheaper and cheaper to out bid each other.Although they would keep the same "cut" for them and just do away with another act or display! The thing that is right with evensville is the shrine controls the action, wich means no 45 minute itermission so every patron is stripped of all his money.People are smarter than the average "producer" thinks they wont come back to a place that just the year before robbed them blind!
Put on good shows with good quality acts and let them feel they got there money's worth, that when people will return.
Why in the world does it have to be a Shrine date. Anonymous #1 look at all the Festivals currently going on in Europe not only annual rituals but new ones springing up each year. A of dozen "spot dates" going on for a two month period of time. All class, all well attended. If you think it is hard getting good acts for an Evansville, imagine trying to get good acts for 6 Evansville's!!!!! I suggest the world is full of "models" that may work elsewhere. Wade
