Dear Bill,
Hopefully you are the right person to write to.
I have been researching my husbands family for some time. A recurring story keeps popping up.
In the early 50's my husband had an uncle, Si Rubens who was involved with Rogers Bros. Circus.
Si was married to Belle, who I am told was the widow of the owner of Rogers Bros. Circus. Belle had a daughter from her first marriage who I believe was named Gladys.
All the stories are basically the same. They all mention Shirley the elephant, the big top, helping out with ticket sales, riding on horses bareback with a harness, etc.
As far as I know there are no photos of these events.
I have looked online to find info on Belle or her daughter Gladys, but no success so far.
Do you have any information on the above? Or any suggestions as to where I should look?
Thanks,
Sharon Rubenstein
