Buckles,
I think this is from 1949, anyway, I thought it was interesting that they show the Christiani`s on teeterboard rather than rosinbacks.

I stayed with my Aunt Nellie in Ottumwa, Iowa for a while in the summer of 1944, in fact WW2 ended while I was there.
Also a circus played Ottumwa and I can't for the life of me remember the name.
I went down to the lot early and got recruited to help put up the show. By the time the top was up (about an 80) and the seats were being set, someone asked how I knew what everything was called (stringers, jacks, etc.) I told them my aunt was Nellie Orton and my father worked Terrell Jacobs' elephants.
Needless to say I would up spending the entire day and was fed in the cook house and saw both performances.
The show had no exotic animals, I can only recall horses, dogs and ponies and the bulk of the show was done by these Cristianis. At one point they did the leaps over a car and closed the show with their teeter-board act.
I don't think I ever enjoyed a show more.

Before we get away from Biller Bros, why would you change a name like Stahlman to Sturmack? Or was it the other way?

Either way what have you gained?

My dad had a friend whose last name was Suchkow but he changed it to Usinko because he thought it sounded more American.

This guy was allowed to vote and drive a car.

I'd be curious to know the name of the mud show you saw in '45 with the Cristiani troupe. Bud Anderson's shows regularly trouped through that territory during that era but can't think of anybody else offhand.

Circus Cafe, Saratoga Springs, New York has a large poster of Biller Brothers Circus over the back of the bar.

After a day at the races we found ourselves at the cafe and inquired about the various circus posters. Apparently the interior designer found the circus posters from various sources.

There was the famous poster of Francis Brunn at the cafe.

Ames Daily Tribune

Ames Spectators
See Clark Circus

Citizens of Ames witnessed the
various performances of the M. L.
Clark and Sons circus which came
to town yesterday. Afternoon and
evening shows were presented In
the Big Top.
A moment of near tragedy hushed
the crowd at the evening show
during the bareback riders part of
tho program, when a small girl,
a member of the circus troupe, fell
from a rope swing, but she was
not hurt seriously. The rope which
swung the child in the air came untied
at one of the stakes and the
girl fell to the ground. She took
a bow In the ring later to show
the spectators she was not Injured.
Horses, monkeys, dogs, trapeze
performers, bare back riders,
tumbling troupe and a clown made
up the various events ot the performance.
Tricks were performed
by dogs, monkeys and horses.
The big event at the circus was
the Chrlstlanls troupe, composed of
three men and three women, who
did various tumbling acts in the
ring. Their final event of the show
was a head long hurdle through the
air over a span of two cars land-
ing on an air filled mattress.
Along with, the various acts of
the circus were souvenirs, popcorn,
cotton candy and peanuts.
