I didn't know how to get in this question, so I am using this photo of a tent far back in the shot, to ask.
Why did (do) some circuses prefer the push pole and some the bale ring tent?
The push pole seems so much easier to raise. Dion
Dorey Miller was a firm believer in the push pull top. Not sure why. On the other hand Beatty-Cole was a strong proponet of the bale ring.
Where are the experts on this discussion. Doesen't Wade B. have some expert opinion on the subject?
I am by NO means a Expert..or at anything for that matter...However, I started as tent crew guy and have worked on a few tents...The advantage of a push-pole..is speed...The advantage of a Bale ring is less stress and wear on the Top, plus the peaks can dropped in wind...I am sure there are more reasons, which others will weigh in on.....
Oh..By the way..both tops I see are Bale Ring...
Dion,
I would bet Wade has never worked in a push pole tent. And I would doubt he has ever "put up" either. If you were asking the size of the doors at a building he might have a clue, but I can't see him chiming in on tent discussions.
As kindly mentioned, speed and stress seem to be two good reasons to choose one method over the other.
I watched D.R's giant go up a thousand times (from a chair at the pie car)but never watched a bale ringer go up except in old movies at CWM.
Another, unmentioned contender seems to be the European, 4 master. Now, that just does not make any sense to me at all.
Any opinion on why Cole and many Mexican tents are that style? Thanks DION
