2009 Red Show flyer (From Dominic Yodice)

Ad, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Hi Buckles,
Thought the group would like to see the ad for the new 2009 Ringling show...."Zing-Zang-Zoom". We were at the beautiful new Prudential Center arena in Newark,New Jersey last night to see the "Bellobration" show. They were handing out these flyers as we left the arena.
Very enjoyable this time around. I did enjoy it last year too but maybe because I was sitting so close to the action last night I think I enjoyed it more.
My heart skipped a beat when during the opening walk around, 11 large elephants paraded around the track. Glad that it was the usual 7 or 8 of the past few years. 10 worked the act.
Notice on the ad the reference to "Clown College" during the pre show. Interesting?????
Saw fellow blog contributor Dick Flint. He tried to sell us an $8.00 box of popcorn. Seems that the price is the same but the box got smaller. We had a nice chat during intermission.
Regards,
Dom

"A title like this could mean anything and tells me that at this point they don't have a clue. Whatever they come up with, who's to say it's neither a Zing, Zang nor a Zoom.
Same thing with Big Apple when they were stumped we got "Happy On" and "Goin' Places" which prompted one wag to say, "I hope it's not down the drain!"

To: Circuslover.... and all..

I was in Newark for the "Bello"
opening last night as well. Now we have 4 large arenas in the NY metropolitan area.. (It was my 3rd viewing of BELLOBRATION.. the prior two in the Garden.. and in Grand Rapids, MI.

Very sizable crowd. BUT... $30 parking. (I took the PATH train from Manhattan for $1.75.) Programs $20.

YES!! Taba is better than ever. 10 BEAUTIFUL TIGERS.. of mixed strains... impeccably groomed and trained.. with Taba's
audience-appealing patter. (He opens with most of the tigers already in the pyramid. I think I would prefer having them enter one-by-one with him introducing them. I enjoy watching them moving "naturally" - as well as during the display.) He finishes with a "back hindleg walk" for a full circle of the area with one tiger ... and then the magnificent forward backleg-full stetch-hop/walk with the LARGE tiger towering above him!! Incredible!!

But.. nothing puts the show and the audience to sleep in the second act as much as the 8-maiden pyramid/contortion act!!
(I'm always amazed at the number of little ones - younger than 1 year..who are asleep most of the time. I like to think that their parents are the circus supporters and can't wait see to see a circus again!!)

I'll be there!!! And I'm 74!!

A couple of interesting things about this flyer.
The other side of the piece has an ad for the upcoming Prudential Center appearance of Disney on Ice, World of Fantasy, Dec. 3-7 this year.
Another interesting item is that RBBB is offering a 50% savings for Zing-Zang-Zoom tickets if purchases are made by midnight October 24th, limited to 8 tickets. All the usual restrictions on VIP etc.
The primary purpose of the piece I am sure is to promote the Ice show.
Additional printing costs I am sure were minimal for the two sided piece.

The ad piece also informs the public that the circus will be back in the spring not the fall. Any "incremental circus ticket sales" realized by RBBB for the Mar. 5-8 appearance would be a big bonus.
Newark is just a stones throw from Manhatten and MSG. I am sure this will cut into attendance, which has been an issue of late, at the "World"s Most Famous Arena".

I heard Taba will be returning and that he will also be in charge of the stable which I'm not sure if he is currently in charge of.

Taking into account that MSG is reduced to 11 days instead of the 11 WEEKS, one would not be surprised if MSG was not played at all in the future.
Where in the past the "bridge and tunnel" crowd would trek to NYC as a day's outing, nowadays with everyone's hyper-family life an entire day in Manhattan is just a dream.

Are it the same artists as in Bellobration ?

WE MENTIONED THE COST OF PARKING TO A MEMBER OF THE RBBB NY OFFICE WHO APPRECIATED THE "HEADS UP" AND TOLD US THEY WOULD BE CONTACTING THE VENUE AND THE CITY OF NEWARK
ABOUT SAME. WE WERE AMONG THE FIRST TO PULL INTO A LOT RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE CENTER.
WHEN THE FELLOW AT THE GATE TOLD ME "$30.00" I SAID TO HIM, "DO ME A FAVOR, POINT A GUN AT ME BEFORE I
HAND YOU THE MONEY." HE LAUGHED.
THEN WE HAD TO WAIT FOR 5-10 MINUTES BECAUSE THEY HAD A NEW SYSTEM WHICH WASN'T VALIDATING TICKETS SO YOU COULD LEAVE WITHOUT WAITING.

ONE MORE THING, EMPLOYEES AT THE ARENA TOLD US WE WERE LUCKY THAT WE WEREN'T GOING TO A HOCKEY GAME (NJ DEVILS) BECAUSED IT'S $40.00
THEN.

It occurred to me that the Zoom and the gears indicates the return of yet another season of the daredevil Motorcycle hijinks in the Globe of Death.

Well let's just add the motorcycle incline, The Lion riding Motorcyle ala Jewell New, James Hall's Motorcycle riding bears, A couple clown gags on the "Crotch Rockets", the incredible 60 degree inclined jump across 7 elephants, 2 motorcyclists inside the space wheel at the very same time, watch them..... a speeding motorcycle, a teeterboard, and an elephant's amazing timing, leaping motorcyclists doing back flips through a flaming hoop, 10 motorcycles all pulling the Circus floats, and a couple more loops and turns and the Motorcyle now becomes the newest Circus Premier show - "MotoCircus".

Do I start hanging the WAIT paper?

Bob, Maybe he's also incorporating his NEW acquisition "The Grave Digger"..(No pun Intended).....

With $30 parking and $15 snokones, someone is going to be diggin themselves into the grave.

Since Newark is the Crime Capital of the World, it would be cheaper to let your car unlocked, have it stolen, then found, turn it in for the insurance money---this would be worth the aggravation and expense of the $30.

NEWS FLASH---reston, VA---Feld Entertainment announced that it has purchased all the parking garages in the metro New York area. The new enterprise will be called Park-n-Rob.

I do agree that the $30 parking cost was excessive.
If I remember correctly this past Spring I paid $22 to park when I caught RBBB Over The Top in NYC at MSG. So the cost to park in Newark is very excessive. I was however a bit surprised to hear others on the way out of the arena complain about the $20 parking fee they had paid. Seems they parked behind the building and not in one of the lots in front of the building. Yet they thought $20 was excessive.
In all fairness the $30 or $20 parking fees in Newark are being charged by private parking lot operators and not the Feld organization.
Paul G. took the correct approach reporting the issue to a member of the RBBB New York office.
I have emailed my concern about the excessive fee to Feld's Virginia office. I am sure if the Feld organization raises the issue with the powers to be in Newark the issue will at the very least be looked at.
The Mayor who has been totally engaged with RBBB returning to Newark attended both shows Thursday, opening day. Prior to the 7:30 show he had the arena floor to himself utilizing the opportunity to recognize and present awards to some of Newark's finer citizens and politicians, it is an election year, right?. Additionally he freely participated in the hoopla and publicity generated by the Feld organization over the past 3 weeks ballyhooing the return of RBBB to Newark after some 50+ years.
The mayor and his administration are working very hard to ensure the success of this new venue as part of a re-vitalization program for the city of Newark. It is there intention to make the new Prudential Center an entertainment destination venue within the New York Metro area. Hopefully the mayor and his administration will work to regulate or cap the fees charged by these legalized bandits for any event. Not just the circus.
By the way I drove to Newark from Long Island to attend the show. I paid $16.65 in tolls for bridges and New Jersey Turnpike fees. CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT WITH THIS ISSUE?

With regard to BAC's title "Happy On", the name was inspired by Norman Barrett who has long believed that if a show was happy off, it was happy on. In other words, if everybody got on well (happy off) then it would be a happy show (happy on).

Buy a round trip ticket to Evansville, Indiana for the annual Shrine Circus in November.
Twice the show for half the overall price.

1. We are in capitalistic USA -- trying to get Feld to get the powers to be to put the pressure on a PRIVATE COMPANY that owns the parking garage to lower prices is going to be as successful as the powers to be putting pressure on a PRIVATE COMPANY that owns a circus to lower its prices!

2. The Ringling show doing ONE DAY STANDS? It will be an historic day in Johnstown. Set-up and tear-down is going to last longer than the show itself.

3. It is obvious that BOOK EM DANNO, the whiz bang promoter who canceled a show, was thought to be found dead and has resurrected in Johnstown with a one-day one-show spot. Perhaps this one and one booking is a limp attempt at making up the one show he canceled.

Happy On and Start Your Engines.

In Newark, popcorn sold for $5 (not $8) for the small size box and no large size boxes of popcorn were sold during the engagement. The rumors circulating since spring about Siegfried or Roy traveling with the new show are without foundation. And Taba will be back.
