Gunther Gebel-Williams (From Henry Penndorf)

Gunther Gebel-Williams.14, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Hi Bill,

I didn't want today to end without a mention of Gunther Gebel-Williams. Today, September 12, I believe would have been his seventy-fourth birthday.

As someone very wise told me, "he was truly touched by the gods". What a showman he was.

Hope all is well,

Henry

Henry,
He truly was touched by the Gods, and the only one deserving of the crown of "KING".

More information about Circus Williams, the German circus Mr. Gebel-Williams worked at before his time at Ringling and the Williams family can be found at www.circus-williams.de/starte.htm . The history part is still undergoing translation but is expected to go online at the end of next week. Enjoy

There is man in the background between Gunther's head and the pull-up. Does it look like Mickey Antalek to anyone else but me?

Hi Mike,

I certainly resembles Mickey, but the costume looks a bit goofy for an act of his stature.

Ron, I think this was the Toyland Spec and Mickey resembled a "wooden soldier".
