Yes, it was '83. I too have pictures and know as my family had the great fortune to spend a couple of weeks with the show in South Dakota! What I wish I had recorded was his "Rat Pitch" for the pit show on the midway!

I wish Rick Pfening would chime in here occasionally. He has this great story about Bobby that I will have to tell in his absence:
Rick and Fred drove up in Fred's Rolls-Royce one day just as Bobby was making an opening. As they got out of the car they heard a familiar voice over the PA system say, "Get that piece of junk off this lot; we're trying to run a high class show here!"
Let me add a Bobbyism. When he first did the Big Apple in NYC, he inevitably had to take his first ride on subway.
That was right after Bernhard Goetz had shot those young toughs who were threatening him on the NY subway (1984). It was a sensational story - -true defense or vigilantism?
As Bobby descended the stairs to the subway amid the scurrying throng, he started screaming, "I'm a friend of Bernhard Goetz."
I did not see the incident but was told of it by someone who was there - -cannot recall whom.
Thanks to everyone for sharing all of your photos of " Bobby " with me and my family. These are ones we have never seen. You all knew Bobby the only thing he kept was 8X10's black and whites. Spaeial thanhs to you Buckles for having this blog so everyone can share thier great memories. Casey
Bobby was also an educator. I think it was a troupe of Chinese performers on Big Apple that he taught the finer words of the English language, which they then shouted, at his behest, from some float in a parade somewhere. Maybe someone knows the details.
