Buckles, you may have this already, but here is a picture of Morgan Berry and Thonglaw at Portland in 1974. It is from the cover of the book "Jumbo Ghosts" and probably the last photo of the big fella. Thanks. |

In my first year with Gil Gray Circus [55] I got acquainted with Dolly Jacobs elephants, namely Modoc, Judy, Dolly Dumbo and a young pretty good size male named Siam. He seemed to be OK and tailed up but was not in the act and don't believe he ever was. Seemed like a west coast elephant guy named Larry White had done training on this male and a nother named Thonglaw at the time. Larry was a security gaurd when we were in "Disnewtland" and I saw him frquently and he told me about them. I believe they came from Hawaii when Dolly was over there with Ward-Bell Circus, I was informed by Larry that Thonglaw did indeed go to Portland or Seattle and get immortal fame as the first American breeding male in modern times. I guess thats how Morgan Berry came in the picture. I don't know what Dolly ever did with Siam.
