Thong-Law (FromJoey Ratliff)

thong-law, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Buckles, you may have this already, but here is a picture of Morgan Berry and Thonglaw at Portland in 1974. It is from the cover of the book "Jumbo Ghosts" and probably the last photo of the big fella. Thanks.

In my first year with Gil Gray Circus [55] I got acquainted with Dolly Jacobs elephants, namely Modoc, Judy, Dolly Dumbo and a young pretty good size male named Siam. He seemed to be OK and tailed up but was not in the act and don't believe he ever was. Seemed like a west coast elephant guy named Larry White had done training on this male and a nother named Thonglaw at the time. Larry was a security gaurd when we were in "Disnewtland" and I saw him frquently and he told me about them. I believe they came from Hawaii when Dolly was over there with Ward-Bell Circus, I was informed by Larry that Thonglaw did indeed go to Portland or Seattle and get immortal fame as the first American breeding male in modern times. I guess thats how Morgan Berry came in the picture. I don't know what Dolly ever did with Siam.
