More on Clyde Beatty #1 (From Joey Ratliff)

Beatty1, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Buckles, here are three more selections for what is
becoming Clyde Beatty week. They speak for themselves.
As I have stated here before, Mr. Beatty was gone
before I was born so all I have are my collection of
all the movies, radio show, photos, books,
miscelaneous junk and the legends. I like to compare
his legend to Elvis. Was Elevis the greatest
singer/musician? No. Was he the King? Yes! Thanks.

Joey -- you hit the nail on the head! no matter how many tricks clyde beatty's cats did or didn't do, his act was always the best -- in the circus business, he was and will always be The King. And i don't think any trick anyone else does will ever create the excitement the bouncing lion at the safety cage door created. and he was also such a great person. as buckles said his father said -- he was the best boss he ever had and he never missed a payday. he always took the time to make everybody feel special. the circus world misses him more every day.

this doesn't have anything to do with clyde beatty, but i just finished watching a ringling christmas special filmed under the big top in, i believe, 1954, narrated by a very relaxed Charlton heston. there are glimpses of many acts from that era, such as trevor bale, the loyal-repenskis, the palacios, tonito, miss mara, the fredonias, hugo schmidt, the fenis-ferroni duo, the carmenas and more that i can't remember, along with roy rogers, lucille ball, eve arden and spring byinton (december bride) but for me, the highlight was 10-year-old elvin bale doing commentary on his father's tiger act, along with sisters dawnita and gloria.
