Here we see Herr Schmidt doing the foot in the face himself, or so it appears. Pretty gutsy. I think I would like someone standing beside the elephant with a bull hook at ready, just in case. I would assume it took a little con to get some "lady of the Ballet" to agree to do it. Doesn't sound like part of the "generally useful" clause in the contract.

Wonder what voice command he used?"pick it up", "put it down","alright", "go on", "back" or "move up". Maybe he used a "clicker".

With "Anna May" Ben would send her to the center of the ring and she would stop and raise her left foot.
He would then slide under the upraised foot and after a moment the foot would be lowered and raised again at the command of "Alright!".
He finally eliminated it since it slowed the tempo of the act and never got as much response as when he rode her hind leg up for the head stand or even for the leg carry.

Would there be anything to the elephant on the left with a different headpiece? Did he add some Ringling elephants to his act? I assume the headpieces for most of the act are from Sweden.

Two Ringling elephants "Minnie" and "Dolly" were added to Hugo's five that are wearing the headpieces brought from Europe.
