RBBB1950 (From Dominic Yodice)

Here's a photo from 1950 showing the "Jungle Drums" elephant finale. Notice that the center ring elephants are facing the front of the house and the ring one elephants are facing the back of the house.
So at least in 1950 and 1951(look at the newspaper photo) Ringling had the elephants facing the front and back of the house. Maybe Irvin Feld watched "The Greatest Show On Earth" and saw an opportunity.

I was just a lad when I saw his edition, far too young to remember the theme. But Mr. Beatty had "Jungle Drums" for his ten-lion lay-down when I was there, and I've forever loved that number. What I would give to hear Merle Evans and the boys play it again.
