Gold unit pre-show and rigging

The pre-show seen here provides great PR but this photo also shows the
central free-standing truss work carried on the Gold unit; a chain
lift powers the square truss to the top of the corner uprights. Each
side of the square carries six moving spotlights and all four corner
uprights also have one for a total of 28. A single and shorter
straight truss hangs in front of the entrance (barely visible in the
photo) and another in front of the ring facing the performers'
entrance. The wheel and high wire rigging can be seen by the portal.
Amplifiers are attached to the upper corners of the main truss and are
also hung elsewhere in the building; the large black box directly over
the ring holds balloons that drop during the show. Roman rings, a
web, and cloud swing are also evident.

Having visited the Gold unit just a couple weeks before, I'll add just a couple items. Barb Durtche, who was a long time CWM employee and volunteer, runs one of the concession joints. The Gold unit fleet of trucks now has a few of the light up sides on the trailers. Barb said there were some of these used in a Coca-Cola commercial during the Christmas Holidays. The trucks turn these lights on about 30 miles from their destination making illuminated Billboards going down the highway.

Seems to be an awfully small stage to show a circus to a fairly large arena.

Mr Flint these pics must have been at the Civic Center in Salisbury. My Brother Bill and I presented the first indoor circus in the old Civic Center back in 1972. Dick Dykes
