Hello Everybody: I thought that everyone would like to know more about this AMERICAN Act. Sam Payne and Sondra Feusi first met at the San Francisco School of Circus Arts back in the early 1990's. I remember both of them very well! I was recruited to become the first President of the School's Independent Board of Director's when the Pickle Family Circus went bankrupt and then defunct for lack of paying Income Taxes for several years. Sam had spent a year or two at the Circus Space in London and came back to the US to study with Mr. Lu Yi, the SFSCA's Master Trainer, who was the Director of China's Nan Jing Acrobats and was brought to the U.S. by Judy Finelli, a former juggling partner of Hovey Burgess. Sondra was from Switzerland and came to the U.S. also to study with Mr. Lu Yi. Sam was taking classes at the school and was part-time secretary at the school as well. I think it's really amazing that Sam started his circus career as an adult not from a circus family, but by shear desire and hours and hours of very hard work on a daily basis, has been able to achieve so much!!! Sondra had more training in Switzerland before coming here, but she too has to be commended for her achievements as well! Both of these individuals spent years as poor starving students studying their art on their own. Who knew when they married that they would become stars in their own right and represent the USA at Monte Carlo with a Silver Clown and the award from the public as the Best Act at Monte Carlo! Many circus "professionals" have poo-pooed the American Circus Schools, but here is another shining example of what contributions OUR circus schools can make to the Circus World! We should all be very proud of what these schools are doing in our country and we don't have to bow down to the schools of any other country on earth! Some have said that the circus is once again dying in this country, but I beg to differ! Granted, Sam and Sondra may never appear with RBBB, but that's RBBB's loss and we can see them at venues like Teatro Zinzanni and Cirque du Soleil productions where they have worked before. CONGRATULATIONS to these two American Performers!!!
