Training Baby Elephants #1

Scan000010703, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

I enjoyed Mr. Herriott's comments on training baby elephants and it brought to mind one we bought from Roman Schmitt in 1989. He was pretty expensive but to quote a very wise man, "I paid more than I wanted to but less than what he was asking".
As you can see he was quite rambunctious the day we picked him up at Busch Gardens.
Very simple operation, I collared him to "Anna May" who proceeded to take him out of the barn, then up into our truck and within a matter of fifteen minutes, he was in show biz.

Buckles: To those anti-circus-animal people who just don't know any better (and don't whose minds are too closed to learn), this is fantastic series of photos on elephant training. Thanks for sharing them.

Buckles,

Thanks for posting,( yet another), great set of
pictures! For me, it shows an interesting contrast,
since I only ever saw you work in the ring, mostly.
Any more pics of the Woodstock Estate, ( I can't
be the only one who's curious)?

Thanks again for running the blog, it has become
one of my favorite sites on the internets.

Happy New Year to you and Barbara, and the rest
of the clan!

P.S. Hello to Erik Jaeger, I know you're out there!

Wes,
Always fun times with you and your brother John, even though you almost managed to delay our flight from Atlanta to Philly with your electric drill that was mistaken for a hand gun! As with you, I miss Buckles jackpot sessions in Pee Wee's playhouse (cookhouse).
I remember when Derrick Rosaire and myself built the divider panel for Ned's winter home at Lincoln Center. All great times with a good bunch of "hellraisers".
