Harry, this wagon looks more carny than circus, I would asume that it was a Strates built wagon. Also, notice that there is about 2 feet above the cages, maybe for props or part of the drome. There is also space in front.
Hal, Thanks so much for the info. I am not into carnivals as I am a circus nut but still like to know how it was done and what makes things tick. I guessed that this was not a Beatty wagon and it did not look like a Ringling wagon or a truck show cage. My Dad took me many years ago and we got to see Olson shows load out on a sunday and what a show it was. Harry
Gosh, about 27yrs ago, when I lived in Kissimmee, I traveled the backroads around Orlando to get to my shoeing clients. I used to pass the Strate Shows "graveyard" near Taft, it is just north of the Orlando Airport. The train was parked there and tons of old props and gear, rides, etc was spread over quite a few acres. I sure wish just once I would have stopped and taken some photos! Of course I wish I would have filmed more of my time at WQTS and Circus World and Blue Show too!
Went by the Strates quarters a couple of weeks ago. Saw many RVs train cars and big truck-rides. I was on S. Orange Ave., but had no time to stop. Wished I would of had my camera with.
Harry, My kids never got to see a real circus railroad train, but were able to take them to see Royal American load out 2 times in two weeks, two years before they went to trucks and I'm sure that this experience will go with them to the gave. bob Kitto
Bob, When i saw Olson Shows load out and to see how it was done will stay with me forever in my down the trail adventures. I got to see Ringling in 1955 and Beatty in 1956 but was just a kid but that also was an experience. Heck if I had really know what it all was about I would have skipped school. But my bottom would have been glowing the next day. But it would ahve all been worth it as it is all gone with the wind now and we just have memories. Harry
Harry, In 1964 I spent 2 different weeks playing in the Beatty-Cole band. In Green Bay, WI, Bubba and I got to see the Olson show load out at the Packers stadium as they had just finished a local date in July. We had gone to see the Packers during a practice session. Would I have known then, I would have tried to get autogrqaphs, as would have Bubba. But alas we didn't know that football greats autographs woud be worth what they are today. Bob Kitto
