I have wanted to post this picture for years but it was too large for the scanner.
Now thanks to Shannon and his Atomic Photo Reducer, the deed has been done.

Keep in mind that there were two road units with herds approximately as big.

Besides TOMMY (King TUSK) isn't this the same PEGGY that also had a personlity conflict with Gunther?

Just asking a question---not trying to get everyone's knickers in a twist. SO RELAX!

Mr. Woodcock,
Is the elephant, Gilda, the one who was sent to the Siegfried & Roy show? I believe Gilda was formerly with the Billy Smart's Circus.

Correct, the same Gilda.
This "Peggy" also came from Billy Smart and is not to be confused with Gunther's "Eva" who later was renamed "Peggy" (after my sister in law) when I received her.
I'm not aware that Gunther ever had any trouble with her but she sure made believers out of Henry Schrorer and company.
This was the reason I eventually retired her to Riddle's Sanctuary fifteen years later, she was just a "one man elephant".

This Photo refreshes many memories & thoughts - For a One Ring Circus to have ALL these Elephants was also quite a Unique Situation along with that 11 Piece Brass Band - & these Elephants seamed to flow around that Ring as though they were Dancing to the Music , doing Headstands , Hindleg walks , Pyramids , etc. The Audiance sure got a BANG for there Buck Here , along with the Air Conditioning , IMAX Movies , Bla , Bla Bla

YES YES...Eva was trained by John Herriott, is that correct? Then went to Ringling then to Buckles.

I was mistaken, it was Henry not GGW, yes, I remember it now.

To further complicate matters, Gunther did add this "Peggy" to his Red Show herd in 1984.

Was Dalilah named after your daughter? Great picture by the way. Would you be able to tell who the people are? I can pick out Barbara and you easily. The faces in the middle are hard to put the names with since the picture didnt expand much. I agree with Bud.

I remember Peggy, the old Billy Smart and CW girl very fondly! I seem to remember the story about how she didn't like alcohol on your breath because some rummy whipped up on her bad? Funny how we always got around her OK even after unloading the hay trucks and loading up on the beer!

I see Gary Jacobson between Hugo and Charlie. Ben, in the blue between Zina and Minyak. I don't have a clue who any of the others are, I was still in New Jersey? Can't make out Scott or Mike Aria, don't know if they were with you yet Capt?

Gary - you have either a better eye than I do or the picture was better on your computer! I knew the men you mentioned are in there somewhere but I had to strain to see the some of the elephants. A few were easy to pick out. I saw Gilda last in Las Vegas with Seigfried and Roy. She is dead now.

Time for new glasses I think. Or computer. I prefer the latter.

Thanks.

To be honest, other than me, Gary and Ben, the only one I remember is Barbara's nephew Roy Billingsly (standing between Barbara and Sophie)
We called the kid standing by Major "Cookie".
The turnover was quite brisk.
At right holding the bull hook and looking more like an elephant man than anyone, is Linda who took care of the horse and leopards. A tough old cow gal who could easily outwork us all unloading hay.

Except for Buckles,Barbara,Gary & Ben I can recall most faces but only one Name - Enock ( in the center with the beard & the first & only person I ever new with that Name )

Bud, I don't think Enock Smith was on the crew at that time? I remember him hiring on 3 yrs later? Cookie, also I think kinda came and went? This crew terrorised the girls that worked the elephant ride, and that's why The Capt gave me the job of dealing with it and my small crew.
