Fairy floss was the name of the treat when it was sold at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. The spun sugar was originally made by hand in pots -- not very efficient. Two men from TN (for Whitey) developed an electric machine to cook the sugar and turn out floss in large quantities in time for the Fair. (Like iced tea, cotton candy didn't debut at the Fair.) Vendors would sell a "cracker jack" sized box of fairy floss for 25 cent. Adjusting for inflation, that would a comparable price to that charged on Feld shows. PAY NO MORE

Mr. Perry:

Two medium sized pieces of USA cotton candy are placed in a bag and tied with a rubber band then placed on a 15 inch stick with a souvenir hat and sold on Ringling for $12.00.

Most other shows are selling floss on a paper cone for $3-4.

RBBB economic being what it is:
16000 seat arena on a Saturday, let's say you sell 1000 pieces per show and three shows a day, thats 3000 pieces TIMES 12 dollars, that's $36,000 in one day. Now remember RBBB has three circuses and about 5(+/-)ice shows so carrying the equation even further and that's $288,000 in Floss Sales in one day.

Fair Dinkem.

That should pay for a few shrimp on the barbie, righty matey?
