The photo seems appropriate for the following information:

In 2008 the Ringling Gold Show will jump from Arizona to Hawaii and then to the northeastern part of New York.

You'd think with $15. cotton candy that the routing department could afford an atlas. Opps, that would make too much sense for Ringling.

Still in shock...

From Prescott Valley, Arizona to Honolulu, Hawaii is 2,902 miles.

From Hawaii to Glen Falls, New York is 4,943 miles.

That's 7,845 miles to show in three towns.

If Dory Miller were alive, this would kill him.

The expense! The hassle! Don't be surprised if Ringling goes to $20 cotton candy and $50 light-up toys.

Bobby Gibbs used to make the Peanut Pitch with Gopher's Show and would introduce the product as having come from the Cliff Vargas Peanut Company in Macon, Georgia.
If any Fans were in the audience he would add, "And if anyone can roast your nuts it's Mr. Vargas!"

On the subject of trying to fill in routes. I heard some time ago that after the Mexican Promoters came to the States to check out the Blue Show that Ken & Nicole was trying to send down there, the answer was "No Way Jose!"

Memorandum to Cracked Nuts,

Dear Mr. Nuts:

Three weeks and 7800 miles is nothing for Ringling Gold. Afterall they have but one elephant and 28 people and 18 of those people work in concessions.

When first reported on THE blog I suspected that the personable and pleasantly charming George Carden was making some 'winter money' as Routing Consultant for Ringling.

Can anyone add information to the tale that the Czarina of the Center Ring, the fetching Miss Sylvia Zerbini-Bauer-Zerbini and her Wonder Horses will not be returning to Ringling Gold? Heard that she is going to a circus associated with an orchard.

Rumor on North Lockwood Ridge is Ringling taking out a 4th unit in 2009. The SILVER unit is scaled to play high school gyms, church halls and bar mitzvahs.

Show talent booked are: 3 trained Russian house cats; two clowns (one announcer, other is show electrician with 3 orange cords) and a family from Costa Rica with hula hoops, rola bola and jump rope.

Talent to travel in a used Dodge Caravan. Concessions in two 53' trailers.

Myakka City is on the route as well as Mabank Texas.

I remember back in 1978 when talk of a third Ringling Unit became a reality and when a newspaper reporter asked Irvin Feld if the new show would be called the White Unit (Red, White and Blue would be a natural assumption).
Mr. Feld indignantly replied, "Never! White means surrender."
As it turned out, it was called Monte Carlo for obvious reasons but the term "Gold Unit" came into play to distinguish it from a Chevrolet car show.
In the years since it has eventually been applied to the Ringling Fair Unit, Kaliedoscape, Home Town, etc. and in general regarded as the kiss of death.
I would say the White Flag of Surrender might have been appropriate from the beginning.

HOT DAMN! If it is coming to Mabank, maybe I can get a jump on front row seats! :)

I would of said ringside, but they might not have a show with rings so front row will have to do!

we run a unit from Baraboo to texas two times ,and made it the "shit Brown unit"
the reason was to verify the color of brown we wanted ,since there are so many shades of brown these days.

Posthumously to Mr. Feld:

White does not necessarily mean surrender. :-)
