The cage trucks behind Mr Beatty were made by placing the cages from three of his former railroad show cage wagons on flatbeds.
In 1946 he had four of these cage wagons built and by 1956 he was only using three for the act; the fourth remained at Deming and was eventually destroyed in a fire there.
For the 1959 season two new cage trailers were built, which have been shown on this blog and which were still in use at Beatty's death in 1965.
This picture must have been taken shortly after the matinee; you recall that he always put on a robe after coming out of the arena.
The cage hand in the background has retrieved the pith helmet from where Mr Beatty had tossed it at his entrance.
Joe, of all the photo's published of Mr. Beatty, this is probably one of the neatest I have seen. Just a great picture. Thank you for sharing.
I can hear it now "the one, the only Clyyyyyde Beatty".
Whitey Thank you so much for the backround information on Mr. Beatty's cage wagons.
Wade I have fianlly sorted thru a great deal of slides I acquired, mainly Beatty-Cole. Was always my favorite show. I will be sending them along over the next few months to Buckles, hopefully he will find them interesting enough to put out on the Blog.
If you would like a print of Mr. Beatty please let me know and I will be happy to send one along to you.
Joe
Boom Boom gave me a recording of the Beatty show way back when from C.B.'s cage act with a tuba taking the lead on the tune the "Big Cage" the old boy sure hit a lick on it.
P.S. I sure remember that announcement
