This was wooden cage #74 that carried deer in 1943.
It was originally at the Circus Hall of Fame in Sarasota.
Eventually it was moved to Peru.
All that is left of the wagon is part of the undergear and some wood.
The red cage in the second photo is aluminum cage #75. It contained a Kangaroo and a Gnu in 1943. This wagon is currently at the CHOF in Peru and is in excellent restored condition. It is used each year in the Circus City Festival parade.

I've seen that list which says the occupants were deer. But I think they were more likely guanacos. What little we can see of the occupants look like the hindquarters of a guanaco. I know #74 carried guanacos in 1944 - -somewhere I have a photo.

Cage #74 was built in 1930 to house the African black rhino Lil acquired that year. She died around 1933 and the cage then housed polar bears. It was photographed many times with the bears, often with the top side panels removed so they could get more ventilation.
