Richard Reynolds asks - -
Isn't this Abele of the 1947-56 shows?
Puqua, one of the 1936 trio, died in 1941. The 3rd of them, Sudan, was not a forest elephant but instead was of the African bush species. And she did grow to large size but she never had nice tusks like those on this animal.
I don't think so. Before I cropped the picture, the wagon in the background included steel rimmed wheels.

OK - -Then this should be Puqua near the end of her days. I'd say 1940 or 1941. She died here in Atlanta as you know. But she was always much shorter than the Indian who was her companion.
Puqua was the first African elephant I can recall seeing. I remember her vividly from 1940. I well recall those long tusks which I had not seen on other elehants of any species. Why, because all the others I'd seen were Asian females.
This animal looks alot more like a forest elephant than bush elephant.
Help me out here, Charlie. I alway's thought a Forest elephant, and a Bush elephant were one and the same. What was Angus? Wade Burck
Wade I think you mean Samson he looked like a Forest elephant. I always considered most Africans pretty "Bush".
Charlie Gray
Your right, Charlie. Samson is who I was refering to. Wade Burck
