The installation of the boardwalk in the 1920s was one way that access to the beach was broadened to the general public. Many rides and other establishments were demolished to facilitate the installation. If Robert Moses had somehow gotten his way, he'd have wiped out CI's amusement zone entirely. That's just about happened in the past forty years, with few rides and entertainments remaining. The big question is what will happen with all of the properties today. There's large, low income housing nearby, but also a minor league ballpark. Looks like it's going to be another former amusement area that will undergo "gentrification," meaning the real estate will go for huge dollars. Control of the land has always been the underlying story of Coney Island.

Yes the same happened in Long Branch , N J . The Whole Boardwalk Area IS GONE ; to The Hilton Convention Center & a 100 Acre Condo Complex ( rather poorly built for its Ocean Front Location ) with Units selling from $500,000 to $2,ooo,ooo directly after the Army Corps. of Engineers Pumped 100 yards of Beach along the coast there ( excluding the very Affulent town of DEAL & Allenhurst which already has Summer Homes of $2,000,000 to $7,000,000 ). Mr. Moses must have moved to Deal , N.J.
