Milwaukee Parade

From anonymous (Comment from Gollmar picture below)

"Some shows had live animals, lions, bears, leopards, secured on top of wagons. They were usually at the feet of their trainers, secured in place by a chain. A view of Barbara, accompanied by a leopard in one of the Milwaukee parades, would also be great."

(No sooner said than done." Alan Gold dubbed this costume "The Globes of Death!)

WOW! Did Barbara make this wardrobe? She looks awesome (as always) as does Oden! Karen Glenn

Did Barbara ever have trouble with the leopard wanting to play with the sparkly strips of material on the costume?

One time I had a costume similar to this; rather than 'Globes of Death', it was dubbed "The Dixie Cups of Indifference".

I can't sign my name. But I'm glad I can laugh about it now.

In Bob Mischka's book Draft Horse Images, he has a really nice picture of Barbera in the parade. He comments that "his favorite times in the parade were hitching his four to the Temple Tableau with Mrs. Woodcock and her leopard riding proudly."

If you were a leopard, wouldn't you want to play with the sparkly strips? Wade Burck

P.S. Buckles, is there a chance Bill Strong has an 8 X 10 like this for sale on EBay? Wade Burck

Barbara looks like a model for a Boris Vallejo painting!

Buckles...As you know this is Barbara in wardrobe Peg Cocburn made for her to ride on twelve camel hitch in GCP. She was accompanied by her excellent leopard laying at her feet and it is my memory ( sometimes faulty) that no leash or chain was used as she was pulled down the streets of Milwaukee riding on a throne pulled by the colorfull team. It was a great piece and one of which we were very proud.

It should be noted that I tried to get Gilda Cristiani to do it with her snow leopard and when I talked to Lucio to make the deal and offered him what I thought was a pretty hefty fee for just three hours for his wife in our wardrobe, he offered me a lesson in circus attitude when he said..."Young man, you clearly do not understand our business." I told that story to Armando Cristiani at Peru last week and he said, I'm sorry, the old man could be sort of tough. Anyway you and Barbara got the job and did it without any fuss, giving us one of the best single features we ever made...Paul Ingrassia

This is probably the only costume in Barbara's collection I can claim any knowledge of.
As usual, she designed and fashioned everything herself however the bra was formed and soldered by Denise and Antonio Olmede.
When I first saw this remarkable item in construction I suggested two small lights be added that could be flashed off and on but was overruled.

I wish I did, and I guarantee it would not be in the store at fixed price, it would be on auction with a high reserve.
Some things we are allowed only one in a lifetime, Barbara is one of those things.

Paul, there is a chain around the neck of the leopard and it is attached to a leash shown in front of Barbara's feet.
